Edu / PaPs elective course at FoA, UB

Bogdan Bogdanovic - DEATH AND THE CITY

PublicArt&PublicSpace is one of the most active programmes at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. During the past years, various projects related to the city and public spaces that involve students, experts and institutions of culture, science, economy and society have been organized within its scope. ART in public spaces, PaPs elective course is engaged in training students for the planning, design and implementation of projects dedicated to improvement of urban public space and their activation / (re)design while using different art forms and resources.

During the winter semester 2010/11 traditional PaPs elective course dealt with the role and influence of Bogdan Bogdanović in public spaces. Course was carried out with the support of international cultural funds and participation of guest lecturers.

Course wes organized with dual themes associated with and inspired by the work of Professor Bogdan Bogdanovic:

Gradoslovar - elective course for students of year 1 of M.Arch.

Death and the City - Grad i Smrt, elective course for students of year 3 of B.Arch.

In Gradoslovar and Death and the City students accomplished independent research work, inspired by specified works and literature, as well as other documents relating to Bogdanovic's work and work of his range. The emphasis was processed through texts by Professor Bogdan Bogdanovic.

According to the courses results - this was one of the most successful and innovative PaPs EDU programmes. In a creative and inspirational way, students responded to the theme of the programme by submitting graphic and textual works, as well as through video, audio and spatial installations. Bogdanović’s writings on the city and his memorial architecture were the main themes of the exhibited works. Within the scope of the exhibition Bogdan Bogdanović: a doomed architect, we presented a part of the projects, recontextualized and redesigned, that had been developed by students within the education process.

As part of the international academic exchange programme BGP – World University Service Austria, Dr. Vladimir Vuković was a guest lecturer on both "Gradoslovar" and "Death and the City" PaPs elective courses dedicated to Bogdan Bogdanovic at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade.

Post-production exhibition "Death and the City - Grad i Smrt - Bogdan Bogdanovic" of the students’ works (follow-up EDU activity) was organized in the Museum of Yugoslav History “25. maj” in Belgrade.

Selected projects were picked by the managers and curators of the The Belgrade City Museum for further exhibiting during the event "Noc Muzeja 2011" (exhibition "Ukleti neimar") in Konak Kneginje Ljubice in Belgrade.
